Initially, i tot today's practice will be quite boring. well, they just had a performance ytd. So i went, and they started to watch a video of solos. hmm, i wasn't watching cos i was on the phone. i felt so paiseh... like i just came and i was so preoccupied with the phone that i din join the rest for quite a while. well, the phonecall was more impt than the video.

Well, we started orchestra-prac after the video at about 9+. like finally and i was soo happy. well, the songs are of kebun baru standard la. just needa sight-read and it's sufficient. i had my own fun playing music =) during the breaks, i began to practise those solos i learnt before. how much i've deproved! i was using the lousy erhu either qing or shan was using the prev time. it's really lousy la. it can't produce nice high-pitched sounds.

I forgot the guy's name, but it's probably the best erhu player in that orchestra. well, i shall name him "that guy". That guy was the only guy around. apparently, the other hongkongers din come. so it was just the 2 of us supporting the whole group. he's quite good and nice actually. he's nice to talk to, unlike first impression. well, he may be kinda ego sometimes too but when our bowing was in contradicting directions, we were like laughing at each other. he helped me quite a bit during the songs. if only he was exposed to more difficult music, he'll become a really good player n one who can appreciate good music. he's gonna bring his HuHanRou erhu for me nex week =DD weee!! good erhu!!

Actually, after i went off during dinner to catch the 6.35pm 350 bus, i waited in vain for quite some time, only to miss the 250 bus. Then i realised that they changed the entire stupid bus schedule and the 6.35pm bus was taken away. i was like wth wth wth. so i rushed off to take the tram to get to jaey's place to try her choc cake. haha...i reached rather late but well, just in time to savour the cake. it was nice! expectedly. i hope i dun get food poisoning =.= but it's really nice. i wouldn't mind the once-in-a-blue-moon cheesecake =)

Oh ya...for some reason, i keep meeting a lot of people i know todae. during the one hr break, i met Dominic whom i haven't talked to in ages but i managed to exchange a few words with him. Then i met charles whom i haven't talked to ever since the dinner but well, i was rushing off to the bus terminal when i met him. hmm... who else... i can't recall. i just remember talking to many people todae, even though the conversations were rather short.

I was thinking about myself for some time. am i taking things for granted? well, recently, i tend to adopt a external locus of control, trying to blame people for many things. but i failed to reflect upon my own mistakes. i sae things as though i noe a lot, but i dun really understand the whole situation. i may perceive things in one way, but the other party may be thinking in the opposite direction. by doing so, i may have failed to notice cues that someone is in need of help. I think i'm being too self-centred these days, thinking that the world revolves around me. well, it's not usually so. i think it's time i become more humble and stop being mean to other people. while i complained about being hurt, i think i'm also hurting some others in the process.

Just came back from the dinner. I really did enjoy myself. i think it's one of the best dinner i've ever had. It made dinners like the faculty and glenn dinner pale in comparison. It was held at this place called Leonda at Yarra in Hawthorn. it's a very nice but posh place. took us about 0.5hrs to get there by chartered bus. every single girl was wearing skirts except us. hahaha!

People whom i knew include py, faezah, sam, chinatsu and yuki. there were fellow glennies like michelle from my floor. I know that 2 more were from my floor too. forgot their names. lol. There weren't many glennies around though. We were assigned to specific seats and tables. py got to sit with the warden and anthony and the other glennies. haha. i was away from her. i sat with yuki and a few other internationals. my table was famously known as the internationals table according to Dai Harris. Yuki, me, Nhu (frm graduate house), charles (menzies), Galle (menzies. dun think her name's spelling was rite) and another chisholm guy (which i dislike) were sitting together with the director of LTI. haha. Yuki, charles, galle and i talked quite a bit. galle's from mauritius, like sharon. Her sister is staying in sg! in sengkang too!! behind my house too!!!! haha!! charles was very nice to talk to. i actually saw him on quite a few occasions but i guess today's the day where i really got to know him. yuki!! miss miss miss nice nice yuki =) i wanna go osaka and stay at yuki's place!

highlight of the post: FOOD of course =) it was a 3 course meal. it started with an entree. some salad thing with meat. it had a tasty sauce. i think it was sweet chilli sauce, mixed with veg, some beehoon and yea, meat. main course was chicken. according to py's style of description = it's tender, juice and moist. when u bite it, the juice just squirts out and the sauce blends in very well with the chicken. HAHA! ok i don't sound like her. faezah and i were betting that she would describe it that way. unfortunately, her piece of chicken wasn't that desirable =P there was salmon also and it looked really good. there was potatoes as side dish. the potato didn't look tantalizing at all but it tasted so so so good. the salad was really awesome too. dessert was the highlight of the whole thing! it was this triple chocolate with a thin layer of choc cake at the bottom. it was so so so wonderful. i just savoured every single mouthful. so sinful! but i love it so much. chinatsu and i were chanting..."mousse mousse mousse" when we saw the cake coming out =)

The whole involves... entertainment = music played by students from the different colleges. it was quite nice. i really liked the music. then everyone started dancing at the end of the dinner. it was very funnie! seeing dai harris and linda kirkman dance. linda kirkman is so so nice and cute. haha! there were many other people dancing too. I actually saw bill mcguinness there! i think he was representing health sciences. This is the first time i enjoyed dancing with the rest of the people. it was not the party party kind. it's not like...drinking and dancing. it was just like grooving to the music: retro and other good songs. but the dance ended with the wild strawberries song which i hated. oh well, py wun dance of course. budden, the chisholm people joined in. sam really liked dancing hurr...

ok la. it was quite nice. we saw the funny side of many ppl there. py probably enjoyed chatting with anthony and bret =p well, made a few friends too i guess, like charles and galle. but i forgot to get their contacts. oh, i got to know some other glennies too. dunno whether we'll talk when we meet again but i hope we will.
Tonite's the night of the gala dinner. I wonder what i haven't updated about. Hmm, was just wondering, what kind of good food they'll provide us. Glenn's formal dining isn't that nice. It just looks better, not like some random buffet we have everyday. the only good thing about glenn formal dining is the dessert =) the dessert is awfully good for the 2 formal dinings we had. we had fruit tarts and muffin with caramel. well, not all people like it. i do =)

Anyway, yesterday i was fairly irritated with some comments i received. well, people tend to view our group of glennies as muggers, studious, no fun. Well, i admit the muggers part. but i disagreed that our group lacked fun. We have our own share of fun, in a different way. The other internationals partying and chatting as part of their fun and activities. I'm aware that they do go out together sometimes of trips but it involves partying. Partying may be the mainstream culture over here, but it doesn't mean that it's the only source of "fun" and the only other meaning to "fun". i may not be sporty, but that doesn't mean that the rest are very sporty either? I think most of the time they just stay in the room and watch shows or play comp games? is that defined as having "life"? and us, the constant muggers = no "life"?
Our fun involves cooking together, playing around together in the davidson room, playing music together, chatting, going out together sometimes and playing our own kind of games. we don't party (except for me) because we don't accept that as "fun".
I'm also quite irritated at the fact they classify us as "those singaporeans". It's an individual thing. we, happen to be mostly singaporeans, just tend to do things similarly. It's a pity that the person failed to view us individually. At least, i don't classify his countrymen as all party kids who don't bother about studying and care only about drinking even though most of them do (shan't mention the country). at least, i noticed an exception somewhere in the very same college.

Olympics update. Stephanie rice won 2 gold medals! way to go, pretty girl! and eamon sullivan is on the road to winning his gold medal!! sullivan better win something. and i hope the two of them get together again after olympics =D haha...wonder i'm watching the olympics for. looking forward to synchronized swimming! missed out diving but oh well. good job tao li! for getting into the finals =) I've been reading aussie news everyday for olympics update. well, the news is all about aussies... so i noe more about the participants in aussie than elsewhere except for michael phleps. haha... that amazing water guy.

oh ya, yesterday there was this "slums" thing going on after dinner. it's this binge drinking + drinking games kinda thing between guys and girl organised by the seniors for the juniors. it was insane. people were drunk by 9+ when sharon and i were watching olympics. could see some RAs busy carrying drunk ppl back. What's worse was, we witnessed 2 girls spraining the ankles or injuring their legs. i think it was horrible because we could see that the girls were in extreme pain. hmmm.. wonder why they still have it. could see that many ppl were having hangovers and behaving weirdly even in the morning during brekkie. some ppl din go for lects. apparently, edgar witnessed a making-out incident. lol! and right before slums started, the toilets outside my area were flooded. wth. i have to walk a long way to get to the next toilet. so shitty. and someone obviously forgot to flush the toilet after shitting in the morning. zzz.

Trying to be a good girl, constantly updating my blog. I wonder how long i can persist. But well, whenever i start to blog, i neglect reading other blogs. zzz... when can i establish that balance?
This weekend has been a really busy one. The busy times started on thurs...

The few of us skipped a lecture to go out to ikea to get qing shan's prezzies. We didn't take very long to get there but we took quite a bit of time to choose the presents. As usual, ikea and its huge selection of products never failed to stop me from scrutinizing every single one. There were many toys, some of which i was veri tempted to get for myself which i wouldn't wanna get on my bdae either =P If only ikea sells bolsters. We got giraffes to add to their collection of toys. then, py and i headed off to the city. PY went to buy materials for sat's pot luck and i went imax to buy tickets for fri's The dark knight session. By the time we got back, we were really tired. i din manage to do anything after dinner.

On fri, morning was packed with a lecture and a self-practice session of assessing vital stats. Missies came to my room to have lunch after that. from evening onwards, after dinner, the glennies + ahxiang went out to the city to meet the rest of the people. We met at federation square for the olympics pre-games. There wasn't much at the pregames... just some intro of athletes. There was face-painting there so some of us got our faces painted with icons of the Beijing olympics. then some of us got handphone keychains with the olympic mascots. hehhh... my single handphone keychain got all 5 mascots on it =D We couldn't catch the opening ceremony because of the movie. Well, i din regret missing the ceremony either because the movie at IMAX was simply great. The screen was HUGE and yea, the place accommodated many many people. it was full house that night (the 9.40pm show). there were scenes of people jumping down from buildings and how i hate those scenes because of my height phobia. I was clinging to Gin (who's beside me). zzz... Well, heath ledger was great. a pity...such a good actor... Well, we rushed back just in time to watch the end of the opening ceremony where the olympic torch was passed to the last person. the guy who was hoisted up and ran the whole stadium in the air, i really admire him. His stamina and stuff are really really good. it's really spectaculer, the last scene and everything else in the end. i bet the front was even better.

On sat, i was kept busy the moment i woke up. went to preston to shop for pot luck. py, jo and i decided to cook cup corn and agar-agar. We got the stuff and by the time we reached back at glenn, it was already 1pm. Then we started making agar-agar while i cooked lunch. I fried elbows with nasi goreng paste and sambal anchovies. The taste was acceptable =P Our agar-agar was a bit weird in the sense that, we couldn't get some of the clumping off. well, somehow we pulled it off. Then we started cooking corn. omg...we used a whole lot of butter. better not let those who ate the corn find out. Then we were kept busy with preparing for qing shan's bdae surprise. We were designing the ice cream we bought for them as part of the surprise. i got a rude shock when i came in to find py n jo eating frm the ice cream tubs. actually, they were creating channels to form the names so that we can drop rainbow chips in. HAHA! Then after that, i went back to my room to prepare the presents for the 2 of them: creating dog tags for their giraffes. after that py and i went out to get the bdae cake. we took the security bus and we met qing shan at the bus terminal!! lol! actually, they din really see us (shan told us later that she did). we ran off to hide behind a wall while waiting for them to leave. zzz... in the end, we missed the tram and the shop was closing in a few mins time. so i ran all the way to the shop (about one tram stop's dist) to stop the shop from closing. it was super cold so i think my throat was partially frozen. We got the cake =D After that, we headed back to glenn for the parade. Yea... we surprised qing shan the moment we got back (who thought the cake was for ndp). NDP parade was quite nice, but as usual, i nearly fell asleep during the performance part after the march. The food kept me awake =) After the parade, we surprised the two of them with their fav flavours of icecream and new member to their soft toy collection. haha... all of us ended up dancing the hwachong mass dances together. i think some of them found it fun =) well, i guess i had the most fun. When everyone left, the glennies (sharon, py, jo, me and nic the ex-glenny) stayed around to play the piano and watch youtube videos and sang along until about 1am. lol...
I think the celebrating ndp overseas has made it more significant. I was very proud of my own country at that moment. well, i really missed home too...esp when my extended family went out together to celebrate my grandma's bdae. chilli crab =( i got to meet my grandma over 3G =))))

Tired tired tired on sunday. Tried to do some studying. finding time to relax and watch shows... but cos i slept too much to recover energy, i din do much either. haiiiz...

Very lazy to blog, but i shall blog again.
Just some updates about life.
- Semester 2 started and a load of work has just been thrown upon me
- I went Tasmania during the june/july hols and had quite a bit of fun there. I had my real experience with snow and snowing and i made plenty of snowmen and snowangels and snow figurines. i think that's the highlight of the whole trip =D see my snowangel on my msn display pic.
- Hy came to melb and we went to many places in melb like dandenong, belgrave and mt buller.
- After coming back from Tazzie, went out wif jaey n gang to some laserquest thing at crown casino. quite fun leh, considering that i was within top 3 for both games. heh...showing off now.
- Then, on one of the weekends, we went to erm, davina's place to celebrate her 21st bdae at Wangarratta. That place is really sweet and davina's place is really really huge! she has her own garden and stuff. We made sushi at her place at part of appetizers and i succeeded at my 2nd attempt at making onigiri! Weee! Then erm we just hung around her house for dinner and so on. I love davina's cat, called ella. She's such a nice cat to cuddle (no lah, just scratch and stroke only)
Did have quite a bit of fun over there with the rest of the ppl, but i guess i was really really tired at the end of it.
- Lotsa work to do, but apparently, most of my weekends are occupied with random stuff. This fri, will be watching dark knight at IMAX (something like omnitheatre in sg). Sat, we'll be celebrating national dae in glenn. LOL! it'll be a "party" at davidson room.
-Visited jaey on my way to CO (as described in the prev post). she treated me to wonderful wonderful ritz bikkies with CHEESE in the middle =) unavailable in aussie unfortunately. i can't wait for her cheetos to arrive so that i can munch on them when i drop by her room on the nex CO prac. HAHA!

Shall update for my own convenience and to waste my own time.
Just went for a CO practice yesterday and i really enjoyed it even though the standards are not as high as the ones i used to have.
now i'm on youtube and listening to some CO songs like Gu Du Feng Qing and suddenly, i just wondered, wow...i remembered playing the song but i can't remember where i played it. Is it because i played too many songs that i can't remember where i played it or who i played it with? I thought situational cues will help me remember. But i really enjoyed those CO performances i used to have. I joined so many COs, seeking challenge, experience, skills and friends and i never regretted wasting so much time on my own little passion which can only stay at that limited level of competency due to personal limitations.
Now i'm in melb and i'm no longer in a chinese dominated culture. My little desire to immerse myself in the chinese music is rekindled and i really hope that i'll have a chance to keep in touch with the culture. I probably regretted not going for any csco practices last year during my working year. Now i understand the feeling of "appreciating something well when it's taken away from you and appreciating it more when u have the opportunity to possess it again"
While listening to the song Gu Du Feng Qing, i finally recalled playing this song with CSCO. I think i gained a significant amount of experience and fun while with that group whom i'm close to, but not so close to. I'm really afraid of going back and facing my teacher/conductor after "running" away from the orchestra. i really want to go back, even during last year. I just contacted Darrel, the kind senior who's always ready to help me, and apparently still remembers me through facebook. He introduced me to this new CO, chao feng CO, probably the only CO in melb.
Chao Feng reminds me of KBCCCO, which i joined when i was in sec 4. It was a CO full of passionate uncles and aunties and occasionally, some young ppl. We played really traditional CO songs and i guess the standard of the songs weren't enough to satisfy my desire for challenging ones. Now, chaofeng is the only CO and there's no way for me to move on and search for more experienced and skilled COs. It is full of young people, seemingly quite passionate. The only downside is that, there's insufficient people and lack of resources for us to play more challenging songs (aka modern CO songs). At this moment while i'm listening to CO songs through youtube, i just missed home, and missed the companion of my instrument, the chinese music and the company of people whom i had a lot of fun pitting my skills against.
qing shan obviously don't like my competitive nature. I'm just seeking fun out of playing together and pitting skills. I love playing in groups and i dun like solos. This is so that i can enjoy some socialising through an avenue known as chinese music. That's the reason why i don't pick on any downsides of the CO, i've no other options already. That's the only CO, if i don't join, there goes my passion. It's just like how i left my passion of manga back in singapore and i missed it a lot a lot too.
Does anyone understand that? Hopefully.
